The Strong Families Commission, Incorporated
(THE COMMISSION)
Strengthening Families and Improving Developmental Outcomes for Children, by promoting greater father involvement in the life of children, engagement in extended family connections, and ensuring the healthiness of communities; urging the Intentional Transformation of social service agencies and child and family systems of care to adopt and institutionalize a father inclusive posture toward men within the families that they serve; and Presenting to the Public the Voices of Men who have Experienced or/are Experiencing Family Disruption and the impact it has had or is having on their lives, as well as the lives of the children they have fathered
THE COMMISSION is a private, nonprofit, 501(c)(3) registered charitable organization based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania that is dedicated to serving fathers raising children, and men who are helping to raise children.
It is structured as a volunteer advocacy organization that partners with social service agencies, and state and federal systems of care that addresses the needs of children, youth, families, and communities that welcome the inclusion of fathers in their service delivery models, in order to improve the emotional, social, physical, intellectual, spiritual, and financial well-being of the children they serve.
The vision of the Commission is clear: children and youth in Philadelphia, across the state of Pennsylvania, and around the country will benefit from and grow up with the support of both of their biological parents in a healthy and supportive environment.
THE COMMISSION’s advocacy calls for 1) greater father presence and involvement in the daily lives of children; 2) the elimination of policy and program barriers that affect family stabilization and successful reunification of families, including fathers, especially when there is or has been unintended family disruption; 3) leveraging public resources to contribute to the well-being of child development; and 4) collaboration among Philadelphia organizations, and beyond, that are family-focused and recognizes the importance of a father’s contribution to the welfare of every child.
It represents a group of people, who have been formally chosen to discover information about a problem, and/or examine the reasons why the problem exists.
In the case of THE COMMISSION the charge translates into eradicating Pennsylvania’s systemic barriers that impede father involvement in the life and well-being of their children.
In short, as citizens of America and members of THE COMMISSION, we charge ourselves to identify systemic barriers to Father’s being in the lives of children and families, and advocate for the elimination of such barriers, allowing for greater father involvement.
